Equality and Diversity Policy
At Cheeky Minds, we are committed to providing an environment where every child, parent, and staff member feels valued, respected, and included. We actively promote equality of opportunity and celebrate diversity in all aspects of our setting, ensuring compliance with the Equality Act 2010, the Children Act 1989/2004, and the EYFS statutory framework (2025).
Policy Created: 26th august 2025
Review date: Annually, or sooner if legislation or guidance changes
Principles
Every child has the right to equal access to learning, play, and development opportunities.
We respect and value the differences in race, religion, culture, gender, language, family structure, age, disability, and socio-economic background.
We challenge discrimination, bias, and stereotypes wherever they occur.
Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do, ensuring that no child or family is disadvantaged.
Admissions
Admissions are fair and open to all children regardless of background or need.
No child will be refused entry on the grounds of race, religion, gender, disability, or family circumstances.
Reasonable adjustments will be made to support children with special educational needs or disabilities.
Curriculum and Learning
Activities, resources, and displays will reflect a wide range of cultures, traditions, and family structures.
Children will learn about fairness, respect, and acceptance through stories, songs, celebrations, and everyday practice.
Stereotypes will be challenged (e.g. toys, books, and role play will promote gender equality and inclusivity).
Staffing and Training
Recruitment, selection, and promotion will be carried out in line with Equal Opportunities legislation.
All staff will receive training on inclusion, equality, and anti-discriminatory practice.
Staff are expected to act as positive role models in promoting respect and inclusion.
Working with Parents and the Community
We respect and value parents’ views, cultural beliefs, and family traditions.
Where English is not the first language, we will take reasonable steps to support communication (e.g. translation apps or visual aids).
We encourage families to share their cultural experiences with the setting.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
We are committed to supporting children with SEND in line with the SEND Code of Practice (2015).
An appointed SEND Coordinator (SENCo) ensures that children with additional needs are identified early and supported appropriately.
Partnership with parents and external agencies will ensure children reach their full potential.
Preventing Discrimination and Harassment
Discriminatory behaviour or language from staff, parents, or children will be challenged immediately.
Incidents will be recorded, investigated, and addressed following our Safeguarding Policy and complaints procedures.
We will create a safe space for children to express their feelings and experiences.
Monitoring and Review
Policies and practices will be regularly reviewed to ensure equality and diversity remain embedded.
Feedback from parents, staff, and children will help shape improvements.
Any updates in Ofsted or EYFS guidance will be implemented promptly.
